Ring generators for gearless turbines

Ring generators are multi-pole generators for turbines with pitch mechanism. They have a low rotation speed and do not need a gear. Material wear, mechanical strain, susceptibility to failure and noise are significantly lower that is the case with common generators. Gearless turbines have a longer life cycle, but manufacturing is more complex and they weigh more.

The generator converts the rotational movement of the gear into electrical current: Inside its case, vertical metal coils rotate in a strong magnet field. This causes electrons to flow through the coil in one direction. Electrical current and therefore voltage are generated. The electrical performance of a modern standard generator is between 500 and 5,000 kilowatts.
