Gear

The gear is located between the low-speed shaft (rotor shaft) and the high-speed shaft (generator shaft). 

The gear increases the low rotation speed of the rotor shaft (often less than 50 rpm) to the necessary nominal rotation speed - 1500 rpm for the drive of a standard generator with a frequency of 50 Hz.
